FGRE offers seven Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes on a full-time and part-time basis. The full time PhD programme will take 6 semesters and the part time programme will take 12 semesters to complete. Candidates must appoint at least one supervisor (academic staff from FGRE). Candidates are allowed to appoint co-supervisors from other faculties in UTM or from other Universities. Candidates are also required to take a Research Methodology course and a University Course. The programmes offered are:


  • Geomatics Engineering
  • Geoinformatics
  • Remote Sensing
  • Hydrography
  • Real Estate
  • Land Administration and Development
  • Facilities Management


Candidates must present their research proposal in semester 3 (full- time) and semester 4 (part-time). The proposal will be evaluated by two internal panels that will be appointed by the FGRE postgraduate academic task force. In order to graduate, candidates are required to submit a thesis following the ‘Thesis Manual (2015 edition)’. The viva voice session will be held at the School of Postgraduate Studies, UTM. Candidates must have published at least one article in refereed and indexed journal.
